Barcelona SC cuts squad, releases five players for second half of LigaPro
Barcelona Sporting Club announced a major squad overhaul ahead of the second half of Ecuador's LigaPro. The club will part ways with four foreign players—Tomás Martínez, Héctor Villalba, Sergio Núñez and Miguel Parrales—and also drop national players Jonathan Minay and Miguel Parrales from the roster. Only two of the departing foreigners can be replaced by new foreign signings due to registration limits; the remaining spots must be filled by domestic players. Coach César Farías remains in charge, with the club's hierarchy reaffirming support for him despite speculation about his possible dismissal.
The changes follow a disappointing first‑semester performance and reflect the club's intent to rebuild the team for the upcoming campaign.
