Barcelona is increasingly functioning as an open-air film set, with the city's streets, squares, and landmarks serving as backdrops for various productions. According to data from the Barcelona Film Commission (BFC), 2,758 national and international productions—including feature films, series, television programs, advertising campaigns, and music videos—filmed in the Catalan capital in 2025.

This growing audiovisual industry involves significant logistical coordination, including managing permits, moving heavy equipment, and regulating traffic through the Guàrdia Urbana.
