Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelkarim signs for Barcelona and makes World Cup debut

FC Barcelona activated their purchase option for 18‑year‑old Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim, paying around €1.5 million plus variables to secure the player permanently from Al Ahly. The deal makes Abdelkarim the first Egyptian to join the Catalan club’s senior squad.

Abdelkarim, a youth international for Egypt, was brought on as a substitute in Egypt’s World Cup group‑stage match against Belgium. He entered in the 76th minute for Mohamed Salah, recorded two passes, won two aerial duels and made a few runs, though he did not register a shot. The appearance marked a generational shift for the national team and offered Barcelona a young talent who could increase his market value after the tournament.
