FC Barcelona defeats Elche 5-0 as Hamza Abdelkarim contract talks intensify
FC Barcelona opened their La Liga campaign with a dominant 5-0 victory over Elche. Raphinha led the scoring with two goals, while Fermin Lopez also secured a brace. Karim Adeyemi scored during his La Liga debut, marking a successful start for manager Hansi Flick’s squad following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.
Amidst this success, much attention is focused on 18-year-old Egyptian striker Hamza Abdelkarim. After a prolific pre-season where he scored four goals, Barcelona has entered negotiations to secure his long-term future. The club aims to upgrade his contract and significantly increase his release clause from €15 million to €150 million to protect him from interest from other clubs.
Although Abdelkarim did not feature in the match against Elche, Hansi Flick praised his potential, describing him as a “distinguished number 9” with great capabilities. The young forward, who joined from Al Ahly, remains a key figure in Barcelona's tactical discussions as the club continues to evaluate its options for a permanent central striker.
