Barcelona eyes Julian Alvarez to replace Lewandowski

FC Barcelona confirmed that the one‑year contract of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski will not be renewed, leaving the club searching for a new centre‑forward. The Catalan side’s primary target is Atletico Madrid’s Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, who has impressed with 20 goals and nine assists for the Spaniards. A deal remains difficult as Atletico have turned down a £129 million offer from Real Madrid and are reluctant to sell Alvarez without a substantially higher fee.

With Alvarez regarded as the preferred option, Barcelona have also compiled a shortlist of alternatives in case the Argentine move falls through. The list includes Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko, Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy and Levante striker Karl Etta Eyong. Sesko, who joined United from RB Leipzig for around £74 million, has become a key player under United manager Michael Carrick, but Manchester United have made it clear that they will not entertain any offer for him. Barcelona have already signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United to add depth to the attack, but the club’s urgent priority remains finding a long‑term replacement for Lewandowski.
