Barcelona targets Spain defender Aymeric Laporte after World Cup success

Barcelona have been reported to be monitoring Aymeric Laporte as a potential signing following his strong performances for Spain at the 2026 World Cup. Laporte, a left‑footed centre‑back who is under contract with Athletic Bilbao until 2028, would provide experience and ball‑playing ability that Barcelona currently lack in that position. The club is also keeping an eye on Argentine defender Cristian Romero, but financial demands from Tottenham are expected to be the main obstacle.

Spain midfielder Pau Cubarsi said he could "imagine" playing alongside Laporte at Camp Nou, noting their successful partnership at the tournament where Spain conceded only one goal. Cubarsi highlighted their similar playing style and mutual confidence, adding that the World Cup has shown how the two could combine at club level.
