Barcelona to open eight new libraries in historic buildings by 2030

Barcelona plans to open or renovate eight libraries by 2030, utilizing several historic buildings to expand the city's cultural infrastructure.

Key projects include the Besòs i el Maresme-Ramon d’Alòs Moner library, scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2027 in a new facility that will also house an auditorium and a health center expansion. Another major project is the recovery of the emblematic Borsí building in the Gothic Quarter, a 21.1 million euro initiative aimed at creating a local library and space for community entities.

In the Raval district, the city is working to create a cultural hub through the expansion of the Biblioteca de Catalunya and the transformation of facilities within the historic Sant Pau and Santa Creu sites at the Rubió i Lluch gardens. Additionally, a new state library is under construction near the Estació de França.
