Rail services in Catalonia face disruptions from theft and station works

Rail services in the Barcelona metropolitan area are facing significant disruptions due to both infrastructure theft and planned maintenance works.

A copper theft at Barcelona’s Estació de França has severely impacted the R2 Sud line, reducing service to only two trains per hour in each direction. This incident has caused widespread delays between Barcelona and Sant Vicenç de Calders, forcing many trains to terminate at Passeig de Gràcia to mitigate congestion.

Separately, Renfe has announced upcoming service modifications due to improvement works at Castelldefels station. During the first phase, from October 31 to November 2, train circulation will be interrupted between Garraf and Gavà. A second, more extensive phase will occur from December 14 to December 20, interrupting service between Vilanova i la Geltrú and Gavà. To assist travelers, Renfe will implement an alternative bus service coordinated with the Generalitat de Catalunya.
