Barcelona Turns Down Marcus Rashford €30 Million Buy Option

FC Barcelona announced it will not activate the €30 million (approximately £26 million) purchase clause for England striker Marcus Rashford before the June 15 deadline. The decision was communicated to Manchester United, meaning Rashford will return to Old Trafford at the end of his loan.

Barcelona cited economic constraints and the player’s high wages as the main reasons for declining the option. While the permanent move is ruled out for now, the club indicated it remains open to negotiating a new loan arrangement with Manchester United if the financial terms are more favourable. Rashford’s contract with United runs until 2028, giving the English club a strong bargaining position.

Other clubs, including Bayern Munich and Chelsea, have expressed interest in Rashford, but they are reportedly considering only loan deals at this stage. The situation leaves the forward’s future uncertain ahead of the World Cup.
