Barcelona woman cleared after hantavirus contact continues home quarantine
A woman who had been hospitalized in the isolation unit of Hospital Clínic in Barcelona after being identified as a contact of a hantavirus case tested negative on her third PCR test. She remains asymptomatic and in good health.
Health authorities said she will finish the remaining 14 days of isolation at home, completing the 42‑day monitoring required by protocol. The follow‑up will be coordinated by Public Health and the Emergency Medical System, with daily checks and strict safety measures such as a single, well‑ventilated room and continuous communication with officials. Hantavirus is a rare rodent‑borne infection that can cause severe respiratory illness.
