Barcelona's EL SANTO fashion store hosts Senegalese artist Modou Gueye as Alicante prepares new museum

The Barcelona menswear label EL SANTO turned its shop on Carrer Duran i Bas into a temporary gallery for four days, displaying works by Senegalese artist Modou Gueye. Founder Bea Rodrigo said the project aims to blend fashion and art, presenting the exhibition as the first of many collaborations.

In Alicante, the historic Casa de Misericordia – former tobacco factory near the Plaza de Toros – is being converted into the new International Museum of Las Cigarreras. The museum, slated to open later this year, will feature six inaugural exhibitions covering artists such as Sorolla, Chagall, Modigliani and the fashion house Balenciaga. The project, budgeted at €3.76 million, is part of the “Alicante Nuevo Centro” cultural axis that will link the historic centre with new cultural and leisure facilities.

Both initiatives highlight a push to integrate contemporary art and cultural attractions into urban spaces across Spain.
