Birmingham City to host FC Barcelona in preseason showcase
A series of preseason football events took place across the United Kingdom. Birmingham City organised a pop‑up football festival in Victoria Square ahead of their friendly against La Liga champions FC Barcelona at St Andrew’s on 31 July. The club also recorded a double‑win in pre‑season friendlies, beating Northampton Town and Crewe Alexandra.
Other clubs reported their own preparations: Barry Town United lost 0‑1 to Gloucester City, a match that featured the first use of VAR at Jenner Park. Guildford City beat Camberley Town 1‑0, while Bath City drew 2‑2 with Newport County. In non‑league action, Trinity held Doncaster Rovers to a goalless draw.
