Barcelos offers free public transport passes to city center workers
The Barcelos City Council has announced that workers operating within the city center's paid parking zone are now entitled to free TUBA Urbano (Urban Transport of Barcelos) passes. This initiative is part of social and economic protection measures linked to the municipality's General Parking and Parking Regulation.
To qualify, employees must present a professional link declaration issued by their employer, confirming their employment and verifying that their workplace is located within the designated area. The TUBA Urbano service offers flexible schedules to accommodate most working hours, operating between 06:45 and 20:28.
The measure aims to facilitate the use of public transport connecting peripheral parking lots to the city center. Barcelos maintains significant parking capacity, including approximately 1,500 free spaces in peripheral lots and over 3,000 total free spaces across central and peripheral locations. This follows the recent implementation of 72 parking meters to promote vehicle turnover in 1,349 city spaces.
