Barco Brasil to compete in Route du Rhum sailing race

The Barco Brasil vessel, a Class40 151, is set to participate in the Route du Rhum – Destino Guadalupe race starting November 1 in Saint-Malo, France. Following its participation in the Globe40 2025/2026, the boat will undertake a solo transatlantic crossing of approximately 3,542 nautical miles (6,560 kilometers) to reach Guadeloupe.

Belgian skipper Gaëtan Thomas will command the vessel individually. Under an agreement with José Guilherme Caldas, Thomas will use the boat in exchange for performing a complete overhaul of the Class40 after the Globe40 and ensuring it is returned in seaworthy condition after the Route du Rhum.

Despite the change in leadership, the boat will maintain its Brazilian identity and continue its campaign to raise awareness about stroke (AVC) prevention. Thomas expressed his commitment to preserving the vessel's colors and mission, noting the importance of the message in collaboration with France AVC.
