Bardiani CSF 7 Saber boss criticizes UCI points system

Bruno Reverberi, the manager of the Italian ProTeam Bardiani CSF 7 Saber, has expressed extreme pessimism regarding the future of both his team and professional cycling. Speaking on the TriCiclo Podcast, Reverberi stated that the team is considering closing within two years.

The team finished 31st in the 2026 UCI rankings, a position that prevents them from securing a wildcard entry for the 2027 Giro d'Italia. Reverberi criticized the current UCI points system, arguing it discourages aggressive racing styles, such as breakaways, in favor of riders conserving energy to sprint for minor points.

Reverberi described the UCI as “incompetent” and suggested that the current structure makes it difficult to secure sponsorship. Due to the uncertainty, the team has reportedly offered new riders only one-year contracts.
