Barelang Transmigration Area becomes site for German-Indonesian green development study

Students from the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, and various Indonesian universities are participating in the Summer Course 2026 in the Barelang Transmigration Area, covering Batam, Rempang, and Galang. The 10-day field study aims to analyze the region's economic, environmental, and infrastructural potential to create integrated development plans.

The collaboration focuses on producing the ‘GreenBarelangSpatial Development Design,’ a spatial development plan that incorporates economic, social, and environmental sustainability. Participants are engaging directly with local communities to understand their needs and challenges, ensuring that the proposed green concept designs support local empowerment and job creation while integrating agriculture and fisheries with Batam’s economic hubs.
