Barendrecht D66 calls for structural plan for homeless labor migrants

The political party D66 is calling for a structural approach to address the issue of homeless labor migrants in Barendrecht. The party expressed concern regarding the emergence of new tent camps, following the eviction of a camp located along the A15 near Vaanpad in July.

Council member Marcel van Prehn has requested information from the municipal executive regarding the number of people currently sleeping in tents or improvised shelters, as well as the number of known locations where such overnight stays occur. D66 is seeking clarity on the fate of the residents from the Vaanpad camp and what assistance, shelter, or guidance was provided to them.

The party argues that the municipality should move beyond mere enforcement of illegal overnight stays and instead implement a strategy that incorporates care, shelter, and guidance. This approach aims to balance social needs with public order, safety, and fire hazards, while coordinating with regional municipalities, employers, and various social organizations.
