UINSA Surabaya students protest against Rector Akh Muzakki

Students and faculty at UIN Sunan Ampel (UINSA) Surabaya are staging ongoing protests against the reappointment of Prof. Akh Muzakki as rector for a second term. The demonstrators have issued a series of demands, most notably calling for Muzakki to resign or be removed from office.

The students' eight primary demands include investigating alleged corruption related to public information transparency, addressing the Kopertais case involving the rector, and resolving delays in distributing student supplies like books and IDs. They also criticized high tuition fees (UKT), limited campus facilities due to high enrollment, restrictive night-time policies, and difficulties in booking campus venues.

Faculty members have also expressed opposition, with some lecturers supporting the students' right to protest. Concerns were raised regarding the transparency of the rector selection process and allegations of legal misconduct. In response to the unrest, student leaders plan to petition Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to facilitate a hearing, citing dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Religious Affairs' handling of the appointment.
