Bareskrim Polri pursues extradition and arrests cybercrime suspects

Indonesian Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) is working with Interpol to extradite Syekh Ahmad Al Misry (SAM) from Egypt to Indonesia following allegations of sexual abuse. Because Indonesia lacks an extradition treaty with Egypt, authorities are utilizing an Interpol Red Notice issued in July 2026 to facilitate his return. Investigators are also examining SAM's citizenship status, as he had applied for Indonesian citizenship without reportedly relinquishing his Egyptian nationality.

In a separate investigation, Bareskrim's Cyber Crime Directorate arrested an Indonesian national, LPK (56), and a Chinese national, LJ (46), for a Business Email Compromise (BEC) scheme. The suspects manipulated email communications between Aiki Power Tools in the United States and Drup Machinery Corp in China to redirect a hardware transaction. The victims were deceived into transferring approximately $350,325 USD to Indonesian bank accounts. Authorities, aided by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK), successfully blocked and secured roughly $285,859 USD (approximately Rp5 billion) for potential asset recovery.
