Bareskrim Polri seizes 28 tons of illegal tin sand in East Belitung
Indonesian police from the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) raided an illegal tin sand storage warehouse in Gantung Village, East Belitung, on August 13, 2026. During the operation, authorities seized 28 tons of tin sand contained in 568 sacks.
Brigjen Mohammad Irhamni stated that the operation targeted illegal mining activities intended for smuggling into Malaysia. Approximately 97 of the sacks had reportedly been paid for and were prepared for transport. Two suspects, identified as RR, a suspected middleman, and DW, a delivery driver, were taken into custody. Police are continuing to investigate other parties involved in the illegal mining and smuggling chain.
