Barford Road to close for 24 days for £1 billion A428 upgrade

National Highways has announced a 24-day continuous closure of Barford Road in Little Barford as part of the £1 billion A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet upgrade scheme. The closure is scheduled to begin at 9pm on Friday, September 25, and is expected to last until 6am on Monday, October 19.

Engineers will use this period to install drainage, complete final tie-in work for the new road alignment, and realign Barford Road over a new bridge. While residents within the closure area will maintain access, there will be no through route between St Neots and Tempsford via Barford Road during this time.

Signed diversions will be in place, directing northbound A1 traffic east along the A428 at Wyboston and redirecting westbound A428 drivers. The wider project aims to increase capacity and improve safety for journeys between Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.
