Bargi hydroelectric plant investigation continues after Suviana explosion
Authorities are continuing operations to drain flooded levels at the Bargi hydroelectric power plant near Lake Suviana. The focus is on accessing the -8 and -9 floors, which remain submerged following the explosion on April 9, 2024, that killed seven workers.
A technical meeting involving the Bologna Prosecutor's Office, Ausl, and firefighters determined that clearing water and debris is necessary to allow divers to reach the lower levels. The primary objective is to recover electronic devices, such as computers, mobile phones, and tablets, which may contain critical evidence for the ongoing investigation.
Structural instabilities persist at the site, including risks of floor collapses on the -7 level. The investigation, led by prosecutors Morena Plazzi and Anna Sessa, is examining charges of culpable disaster, multiple culpable homicide in the workplace, and culpable injury. Investigators intend to compare witness testimonies with technical data retrieved from the plant's instrumentation.
