Bari: 15-year-old arrested for attempted murder of officer

A 15-year-old from Bari has been arrested and placed in a juvenile detention center on charges of aggravated attempted murder and resistance to a public official. The arrest follows investigations into a violent assault on a member of the Guardia di Finanza that occurred on the night of July 2-3 in the Carrassi district.

According to investigators, the off-duty officer intervened in via Papa Benedetto XIII to prevent a car theft attempt. Despite identifying himself as a law enforcement officer, he was surrounded by a group of approximately 15 individuals, including minors and adults. The group allegedly attacked the officer with punches, kicks, and objects such as a wooden platform and door frames. The assault continued even after the officer lost consciousness. The victim received a medical prognosis of approximately two months for his injuries.

The 15-year-old is reportedly the son of a 42-year-old man previously arrested in connection with the same incident. Police utilized surveillance footage to reconstruct the event and identify the suspects. Investigations are ongoing to identify the remaining members of the group involved in the attack.
