Bari area sees teen assaults and alleged gunfire incidents

In the days of August 6‑7, 2023, two separate assaults on 17‑year‑old teenagers occurred in the Bari metropolitan area. The first attack was captured on a smartphone as a group of youths beat a 17‑year‑old boy on an Amtab city‑bus in central Bari. He escaped to the hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. The second assault happened in Corato, a town near Bari, where a 17‑year‑old girl was surrounded and struck by peers, sustaining minor injuries and shock.

A different incident was reported on the evening of August 6 in the Japigia district of Bari. Residents heard what they described as gunshots, but police and Carabinieri found no spent cartridges, blood, or damage at the scene. The alleged exchange between a driver and a passerby remains under investigation, with surveillance footage being reviewed.
