Bari: Arson attack damages scout area in San Girolamo
An arson attack targeting a scout area in the San Girolamo district of Bari occurred during patronal festivities on a Saturday night. The fire caused damage to equipment and materials stored within the space.
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was set by children between the ages of 10 and 12. Parish priest Don Pasquale Zecchini reported that the youths had been throwing firecrackers to attract attention during a concert before the blaze broke out. In response to the incident, the planned religious procession was canceled as a signal to the community.
Bari Mayor Vito Leccese met with the parish priest to inspect the damaged area. The Mayor emphasized the need for social intervention and community support to prevent youth from choosing the wrong path, stating that physical redevelopment of the area must be accompanied by strengthening the social fabric through schools, parishes, and local associations.
