Bari BRT construction forces temporary bus route changes and night works
From 20 July 2026 Amtab in Bari began temporary diversions for urban bus lines 1, 2 and 12 to allow road renovation and the installation of new public‑lighting and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) facilities. The changes include rerouted sections on Via Carabellese, SS 16, Corso Vittorio Emanuele and other streets, with interim stops added for line 2.
A local police ordinance (no. 467/18‑07‑2026) imposed vehicle‑traffic interdictions on Via Matteotti, Via Regina Margherita and adjacent stretches from 21 July to 8 August 2026. The bans alter the normal paths of several bus lines, notably lines 5 and 5 Park&Ride, which were redirected through Corso Due Mari and the Lungomare.
Night‑time works were scheduled on Viale Unità d’Italia, Via Antonio Meucci and Via Capruzzi through 21 August, with lane narrowing, a 30 km/h speed limit and temporary closures between 23:30 and 05:30 to diminish daytime disruption.
Residents protested the BRT works, demanding replacement of removed trees with new planting rather than further road cuts.
