Bari expands municipal nursery school capacity

The municipality of Bari has approved a plan to expand access to municipal nursery schools by introducing an afternoon service for children currently on waiting lists. Starting in the 2026/2027 academic year, the nine operational municipal nurseries will offer sessions from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

This measure is specifically reserved for minors already included in the waiting lists approved last summer and is not open to new general registrations. Fees for the four-hour afternoon sessions will be calculated based on the family's ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator), proportional to the hours attended, while maintaining existing criteria for payment reductions and exemptions.

The expansion is funded through the Special Fund for the Equity of Service Levels (FELS), part of a national initiative that distributed 450 million euros among Italian municipalities to increase early childhood educational offerings. Bari has been allocated 4,087,075 euros to support these objectives.
