Bari implements coastal repairs and environmental cleanup

In Bari, environmental and coastal management efforts are underway following a season of significant weather events. During the ‘Retake al Waterfront’ initiative in the San Girolamo district, over 80 volunteers collected 142.5 kg of waste, including 120 kg of unsorted refuse, 12 kg of glass, and 10.5 kg of plastic, along with approximately 10,000 cigarette butts.

Simultaneously, local authorities are addressing coastal erosion caused by exceptional meteorological conditions and Sirocco winds. Environment Councilor Christian Andruccioli announced plans for beach replenishment to repair damage where the sea has eroded the shoreline by dozens of meters. While a large-scale regional replenishment project is still in the study phase for sand deposits, the municipality and region plan to begin depositing material starting in November, with major work continuing through April.
