Bari man arrested for attempted femicide of ex-wife

Police in Bari have arrested a man with a criminal record for the attempted murder of his ex-wife. The incident occurred on October 9, when the suspect allegedly doused the woman in ethyl alcohol and attempted to set her on fire using a lighter.

According to investigators, a brief struggle ensued during which the victim, overwhelmed by ongoing harassment, reportedly attempted to set herself on fire with the lighter. The tragedy was averted only by the quick intervention of her sister, who used water to extinguish the flames.

Following an investigation by the Bari Mobile Squad and the Prosecutor's Office, authorities reconstructed a history of physical and psychological abuse suffered by the woman during their cohabitation, which also occurred in the presence of their two minor children. The man has been taken into custody following an order from the Bari Court.
