Italy crime reports: Barracks assault, ATM explosions, and fraud alerts

Various criminal incidents have been reported across different Italian regions. In Castelnovo di Sotto, a 40-year-old man was placed under one year of supervised liberty after an incident in November 2021. The man had allegedly damaged a Carabinieri barracks, assaulted two officers, and attempted to seize a service weapon. Although previously acquitted due to mental incapacity, authorities deemed him socially dangerous.

In the Monregalese area, specifically the municipalities of Piozzo and Carrù, local administrations have issued urgent warnings regarding scammers impersonating law enforcement officers. These individuals target elderly citizens via telephone or home visits, using the pretext of urgent checks to extort money and valuables.

In Bari, a criminal group known as the ‘marmotta’ gang has struck again, using explosives to blow up an ATM at a Banca Popolare di Milano branch in the Poggiofranco district. The explosion caused significant damage during an early morning raid.

Additionally, in Modena, a 42-year-old truck driver was reported to police for aggravated threats after a road dispute escalated, involving the discharge of what was later identified as a blank-firing pistol. In Caivano, a raid involving gunfire at a residence led to the arrest of three individuals, including the son of a local figure, following a dispute over unpaid debts.
