Bari Municipality issues formal warning to AQP over road collapse

The Municipality of Bari has issued a formal warning to Acquedotto Pugliese (AQP) following a significant asphalt collapse on Strada della Marina in the San Giorgio district. The incident occurred during a violent storm, causing a section of the road to give way.

Preliminary assessments indicate the collapse was caused by a sewage pipe failure due to network overload, which led to hydraulic pressure that forced the road surface to burst. Investigations also noted issues with the alignment between sewage manholes and the road surface, which may have allowed water to infiltrate between old and new layers of asphalt.

The affected area had recently undergone extraordinary maintenance by AQP to upgrade water and sewage infrastructure. Local authorities, including the Local Police and infrastructure departments, attended the scene to secure the area. The Municipality has demanded that AQP take immediate action to fully restore the road and ensure public safety.
