Bari Municipality joins legal action after Parco Rossani assault
The Municipality of Bari has announced it will join the criminal proceedings as a civil party following the violent assault of Giuditta D’Elia in Parco Rossani. Mayor Vito Leccese stated that the administration's involvement is an institutional stance to protect the victim and ensure the safety of public spaces.
The case involves a 32-year-old cleaning worker who is facing trial for aggravated personal injury. The incident occurred last July after D’Elia, a 26-year-old philosophy student, reportedly reprimanded the woman's minor daughter. During the altercation, the woman allegedly attacked D’Elia, involving others in the assault. D’Elia sustained significant facial injuries, including fractures, requiring a 40-day medical prognosis.
The trial is scheduled to begin on November 4. The defendant is currently under house arrest.
