Bari pedestrianizes Santo Spirito waterfront on weekends

The Bari municipal council approved a temporary pedestrian zone on the Cristoforo Colombo promenade in the Santo Spirito district. The ordinance, proposed by territorial assessor Domenico Scaramuzzi, bans private‑car traffic on the stretch between Via Giuseppe Vacca and Corso Umberto I every Saturday and Sunday from 19:00 to 24:00, starting the weekend of 27 June and running until the end of September 2026.

Emergency vehicles are exempt and a 400‑space parking lot has been created nearby. Scaramuzzi said the measure aims to “encourage walking and cycling, reduce private‑car pressure, and make the waterfront more suitable for cultural and social events.” The city hopes the trial will improve the evening atmosphere and community use of the seafront.
