Bari records 44 extreme wind events in 2026

The metropolitan area of Bari has recorded 44 extreme wind events since the beginning of 2026, according to data from the Osservatorio Città Clima. This contributes to a broader regional trend, with Puglia ranking second in Italy for extreme weather events in coastal municipalities, totaling 136 episodes.

To address these challenges, the international conference ‘InVento 2026’ will be held from September 14 to 16 at the Politecnico di Bari. Organized by the Associazione Nazionale per l'Ingegneria del Vento (ANIV), the event will bring together experts to discuss urban aerodynamics, wind energy, artificial intelligence, and predictive modeling.

Discussions will also focus on the safety of critical infrastructure, including bridges, high-rise buildings, and industrial plants, in relation to extreme phenomena such as tornadoes, waterspouts, and downbursts. Professor Fabio Rizzo, the conference chair, emphasized the urgent need to transition from emergency management to prevention and adaptation strategies.
