Bari begins barrier‑removal works on via Papa Innocenzo XII and five other districts

The municipality of Bari started this morning construction to eliminate architectural barriers on the sidewalks of via Papa Innocenzo XII. The project, overseen by territorial‑care assessor Domenico Scaramuzzi, will install ramps and sliding slopes to improve accessibility for people with reduced mobility, including users of strollers. The works are financed from ordinary road‑maintenance funds and form part of the city’s PEBA (Piano per l’Eliminazione delle Barriere Architettoniche) programme, which guides design of new streets, sidewalks and intersections.

Following the initial site, five additional neighbourhoods will see similar “call‑out” works before autumn: via Albanese/via Capruzzi, via Mameli, the extension of via Lama del Duca, the Lido San Francesco area and via Verdi and via Nicola Rotondo in the Nuova San Paolo district. The interventions respond to citizen reports of inaccessible sidewalks and aim to remove obstacles, creating routes usable by wheelchair users, stroller owners and anyone with temporary motor difficulties.
