Baridhara fatal crash settlement reached for Tk9 lakh

A legal settlement has been reached following the death of Mehedi Hasan Mim, a 24-year-old construction worker who was killed when a speeding private car mounted a footpath in Dhaka’s Baridhara Diplomatic Zone. The victim was resting on the pavement on Tuesday afternoon when the accident occurred.

Mehedi’s brother, Moktadir Islam, who filed the initial case, has agreed to a compromise of 9 lakh BDT with the vehicle owner. The settlement includes 1 lakh BDT for funeral expenses and 8 lakh BDT for the victim's elderly parents. While the brother and father signed the agreement, some other relatives have expressed objections, calling for legal accountability rather than financial compensation.

Initial reports named a 44-year-old man, Akash Marak, as the driver. However, following investigations and social media scrutiny of CCTV footage, police identified 17-year-old Ajan Ali Sharif as the person behind the wheel. The teenager, a student at an English-medium school, was subsequently taken into custody and sent to a correctional facility by the court.
