Barile marks 150 years of Corriere della Sera

Barile, a town in the Basilicata region of Italy, hosted a ceremony on 1 August 2026 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the newspaper Corriere della Sera. The event was organised by the local Pro Loco Barile with the patronage of the municipal authorities, the Basilicata regional government, the regional tourism board and national Pro Loco networks, and took place in Piazza Dalla Chiesa.

The director of the newspaper, Luciano Fontana, attended the ceremony, which was opened by regional assessor Cosimo Latronico. Latronico highlighted the historical link between the paper’s founder Eugenio Torelli Viollier and Barile, noting that the founder’s father, Francesco Torelli, was born in the town. Local officials, journalists and representatives of cultural organisations also participated, underscoring the event’s role in preserving regional heritage and promoting cultural identity.
