Barilla to invest 100 million euros in new Foggia production hub
Barilla has announced a 100 million euro industrial plan for Southern Italy, centered on creating an integrated pasta production hub in Foggia between 2028 and 2030. The project involves constructing a next-generation mill adjacent to the existing pasta factory to shorten the supply chain, reduce logistics costs, and improve efficiency by transforming wheat into semolina on-site.
In a related development, Casillo S.p.A. has confirmed it is in advanced negotiations to acquire Barilla’s mills in Altamura and Castelplanio. Under the proposed agreement, these sites would continue production for the Barilla Group through multi-year supply contracts, allowing Barilla to reorganize its production network through industrial partnerships.
Local agricultural organizations, including Confagricoltura Foggia, have welcomed the investment, noting its potential to transform the region into a Mediterranean food valley. The expansion is expected to create new jobs and strengthen the link between local wheat cultivation and industrial processing.
