Barilla workers announce 16-hour national strike
Labor unions FAI Cisl, Flai Cgil, and Uila Uil have proclaimed a 16-hour national strike across the Barilla Group, with the first eight hours scheduled for Wednesday, October 21. The mobilization follows a meeting between the national RSU coordination and union leadership, where workers criticized the company for making unilateral decisions regarding its industrial plan announced in mid-September.
A primary driver of the protest is the potential sale of several facilities, including the Marcianise plant and the mills in Castelplanio and Altamura. Unions argue that these decisions have been made without adequate prior consultation, compromising industrial relations and creating uncertainty regarding employment and production prospects.
Local strikes are expected at various sites, including the Ascoli Piceno plant, the Melfi facility, the Ferrara mill, and the Castelplanio mill. The unions are demanding that the company return to previous positions and establish a more transparent dialogue to protect the future of the workforce.
