Bariloche court rejects environmental injunction against municipal road project

A court in San Carlos de Bariloche has rejected an environmental injunction that sought to halt municipal road construction between the 112 and 150 Viviendas neighborhoods. Judge Cecilia Wiesztort lifted a previous precautionary measure that had suspended the works for two months.

The legal challenge, prompted by local concerns regarding potential damage to a wetland known as ‘El Abrazo’, was dismissed after a judicial inspection and the review of technical reports. The court concluded that there was insufficient technical evidence to prove that the road opening would cause harmful environmental alterations or that the area is officially delimited as part of the ‘El Abrazo’ wetland.

The project aims to improve connectivity between the city center and the eastern zone of Bariloche. While the municipality continues to work on a technical inventory to define wetland boundaries and protection levels, the judicial decision allows the municipal works to proceed.
