Bariloche expands gas network, adding nearly 1,000 households

The governor of Río Negro, Alberto Weretilneck, and Bariloche mayor Walter Cortés signed a framework agreement with Camuzzi president Jaime Barba to extend natural‑gas distribution in the city. The deal, backed by financing from the provincial banks of Neuquén and Chubut, will connect almost a thousand residents in six neighborhoods – Abril, El Maitén, Mirador del Challhuaco, Quimey Ruca III and two Viviendas complexes – to the gas network.

The project, valued at about US$40 million, follows a recent meeting with local residents where the completion of the community hall and sewer works were also discussed. Weretilneck highlighted that since January Bariloche has enabled 2,072 gas connections, with 270 pending and 1,500 new requests awaiting service. The expansion is presented as a joint effort by the three Patagonian provinces to complete works abandoned by the national government.

The agreement was signed in Bariloche’s municipal press room, with video participation from Neuquén governor Rolando Figueroa and Chubut governor Ignacio Torres, who confirmed provincial financing for the construction of the new distribution lines.
