Bariloche hospital performs complex heart surgery on premature infant
Medical specialists successfully performed a complex heart surgery on a 32-day-old premature infant in Bariloche, Argentina, avoiding the need for a high-risk medical transfer. The infant, weighing only 1,331 grams, required surgery to close a patent ductus arteriosus, a condition that can lead to serious cardiac complications and organ dysfunction.
After initial pharmacological treatments failed to close the ductus, a pediatric cardiovascular surgery team traveled to Bariloche to perform the procedure at the Hospital Zonal y Neonatología. The hospital's Level 3P Neonatology unit provided the necessary infrastructure to support the infant during the intervention. The surgery was successful, and the patient remains under specialized care.
