Barinas hostage crisis ends with two girls rescued and suspect surrendered

A violent incident in the Obispos municipality of Barinas, Venezuela, concluded with the rescue of two young girls and the surrender of a suspect. Alexander Rodríguez, a 43-year-old retired military officer, allegedly entered a residence in the La Gran Villa urbanism and shot and killed a couple, identified as Wilfredo Antonio Serrano Alvarado and Karla Carolina Hernández Hernández.

Following the double homicide, Rodríguez took the victims' daughters, aged 7 and 13, hostage. The standoff lasted several hours, prompting a massive security deployment involving the CICPC, SEBIN, and other national agencies. Negotiations were facilitated by the Public Ministry and religious representatives.

Preliminary investigations suggest the motive was a financial dispute involving a debt of approximately $13,500 related to a failed investment. Rodríguez eventually surrendered to authorities without further violence. The two children were rescued unharmed and were taken to a medical center for psychological and physical evaluation.
