Barletta celebrates Disfida with Carabinieri cavalry display

The celebrations for the Disfida di Barletta 2026 commenced at the Castle Moat with a historical performance by the 4th Carabinieri Cavalry Regiment. The event featured the ‘Carosello Storico’, a display of equestrian skill, discipline, and military precision.

The performance included musicians, flag throwers, and armigers, serving as a tribute to the historical 1503 duel where Italian knights led by Ettore Fieramosca defeated French opponents. The Carabinieri also reenacted the 1848 Battle of Pastrengo, where cavalry units charged Austrian forces to protect King Charles Albert of Savoy.

Senator Dario Damiani attended the event, emphasizing the importance of valorizing Barletta’s historical heritage. He noted that the Disfida is a symbol of national pride and called for continued efforts to promote the event on a national scale to attract wider audiences.
