Lytton, BC Wildfire Expands to 100 Hectares, Highway 1 Closed

A wildfire south of Lytton, British Columbia, has rapidly grown to about 100 hectares, reaching Rank 4‑5 intensity with an organized crown fire and long‑range spotting. The blaze has forced the closure of Highway 1 for roughly 116‑117 km between Cottonwood Road and Airport Road, disrupting traffic and prompting drivers to use alternate routes such as Highway 5 and Highway 97C.

BC Hydro reports a power outage affecting around 1,000 customers in Lytton and surrounding communities along Highway 1, with crews dispatched to restore service. No evacuation orders are in place, though a short‑term evacuation alert was issued for residents north of Klahkamich 17. The fire is believed to be human‑caused and is under investigation. Multiple BC Wildfire Service crews, aerial assets, and the Lytton Fire and Rescue team are on scene, while the Ministry of Transportation assists with road management.
