Barna Group Survey Finds 44% of Practicing Christians Use AI Frequently

A Barna Group survey of 1,514 U.S. adults conducted in November 2025 and a separate poll of 442 Protestant pastors in December 2025 shows that practicing Christians adopt artificial intelligence at higher rates than the general population. Forty‑four percent of practicing Christians reported using AI “very often” or “often” in their personal lives, compared with 31 % of all U.S. adults. In the workplace, 39 % said they use AI frequently, versus 26 % of the broader adult population.

Pastors lag behind their congregants: only about 12 % feel equipped to guide believers on AI use, and a minority (16 % personal, 24 % work) report using AI often themselves. Nearly half of practicing Christians said they would trust AI to aid spiritual growth, though most use the technology for learning, advice and writing rather than scriptural interpretation. Barna’s research director Daniel Copeland noted the gap lies in usage frequency, not overall adoption. Advocacy groups such as Tech Justice Law have called for stronger safety and transparency standards for AI products.
