Barna Tánczos condemns violence at livestock farmers' protest

Romanian Agriculture Minister Barna Tánczos has condemned the violence that occurred during a recent livestock farmers' protest near the Antipa Museum. Tánczos stated that the demonstration was turned into a vandalistic action by individuals who do not represent the actual interests of livestock breeders.

While the protest escalated when some participants broke through police lines and threw stones at law enforcement, 14 representative livestock organizations distanced themselves from the violence and the harassment of officers. The Minister met with a delegation from these organizations at the Ministry of Agriculture to discuss their grievances.

Tánczos noted that many of the farmers' demands are justified and that previous negotiations have already led to progress. Specifically, the National Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) has submitted a plan to the European Commission to restart sheep and goat exports. This plan is scheduled for discussion by representatives of the 27 member states this weekend to prepare for European Commission approval.
