Barnabás Varga becomes key figure for AEK Athens

Hungarian forward Barnabás Varga has become a central figure for AEK Athens, serving as a model for the club's future recruitment strategy. Following his January transfer from Ferencváros for approximately five million euros, Varga has established himself as a key player under manager Marko Nikolics, contributing significantly to the team's pursuit of the league title.

Ahead of a major derby against Panathinaikos, Nikolics is expected to start both Varga and fellow Hungarian midfielder Milán Vitális. The match follows a period of mixed results for AEK, including a recent cup loss to PAOK where Nikolics criticized the team for defensive errors and missed opportunities. The club is now focusing on the derby to improve its away form and competitive standing.
