Barnabas Varga to miss at least three weeks due to injury
AEK Athens striker Barnabas Varga is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks following a muscle injury. The 31-year-old Hungarian forward sustained the injury to his right hamstring during a Greek Cup match against Panserraikos.
Medical examinations confirmed the severity of the injury, which will keep Varga out of training during the upcoming international break. He will miss the upcoming match against Volos and is considered doubtful for the league game against OFI on October 10. A more realistic target for his return is the Champions League fixture against Shakhtar Donetsk in London on October 14.
Due to the player's absence and a dense upcoming schedule, AEK management is considering requesting a postponement of their league match against Atromitos, which falls between their European commitments against Shakhtar and Manchester City.
