Barão de Cocais announces new wildfire combat measures

Mayor Geraldo Abade has announced new measures to strengthen wildfire combat in Barão de Cocais. The municipal government signed a partnership agreement with the Grupo de Resgate Voluntário de Emergência (GRVE) to bolster local response efforts.

The agreement includes a transfer of R$ 240,000 to the GRVE, funded via an amendment from Councilman Gláucio Magela. These funds will be used for team maintenance, purchasing supplies, providing personal protective equipment (PPE), vehicle maintenance, and educational campaigns. The GRVE recently established a specialized branch for forest fires known as the Grupo de Resposta a Emergências Vegetal e Ambiental (GRVEA), led by Uelinton Silva.

Additionally, the mayor has submitted Bill No. 45/2026 to the City Council, which proposes the creation of the municipality’s first official Municipal Brigade for the Prevention and Combat of Forest Fires. This legislative move aims to address historical vulnerabilities in the region, which previously faced significant fire outbreaks and a declared state of emergency in September 2024.
